Sustainability is at the heart of MOA Berlin, and we are proud to announce our double certification as a reflection of our commitment.
Why do we need a sustainability certification? The growing engagement with the climate crisis has a noticeable impact on companies that commit to establishing sustainability standards. We experience this shift at MOA through increased inquiries from event clients who are paying more and more attention to the sustainable commitment of their business partners. Companies that have integrated sustainability must meet minimum standards, and public authorities are following suit. Guests want a stay with a clear conscience and are deliberately looking for sustainable options. For us, sustainability is no longer just an option, but an obligation. The certification enables us to clearly communicate our path toward sustainable corporate governance, build image value, and meet the growing market demand.
What kind of certification is this? The certification was carried out by VisitBerlin, Berlin's official tourism and congress organisation, in cooperation with the audit agency trias. It is a demanding sustainability management system that promotes corporate sustainability and continuous improvement. The certification carries the "GSTC recognized" distinction and is integrated into the federal government's eRFP system.
What does the certification include? The criteria catalogue comprises 54 criteria and 231 measures in the categories of society, environment, economy, and GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance). This comprehensive structure anchors sustainable practices in all areas and avoids superficial "greenwashing." MOA Berlin is establishing a management system that sets positive processes in motion not only for employees, but also for guests and the environment.
Who was internally involved in the certification process? Our certification team, made up of dedicated employees, worked together on the successful implementation of the certification. From waste separation to support with concepts – every contribution helped create the bigger picture and position us as a high performer.
What level have we reached? With an overall performance of 69%, we entered as a high performer with four out of five leaves. Our goal is to reach the leader level by the end of 2024 and to further intensify our sustainable measures.
How do we stand in the competition? Compared with other hotels and event venues in Berlin, we are at the top. The double certification strengthens our position in the market, alongside well-known establishments such as ESTREL and Seminaris CampusHotel.
What happens next? 2024 will be used to further advance the extensive action plan and to further sharpen processes that have already been initiated. This year serves to integrate sustainability even more deeply into the DNA of MOA Berlin and to position ourselves clearly.
